Super simple way to get out of Jury service with no hassle.
Attend the court, get sworn in, when you sit in the jury, give the defendant a big thumbs up. The prosecution will then have you thrown out, having claimed your expenses for the day. Simple.
If you don't want to do that here are some genuine reasons for opting out:
Medical reasons or physical disability
Family or caregiver responsibilities
Being a primary caregiver for a dependent with special needs
Financial hardship or significant financial loss if you have to serve on a jury
Being a student, particularly if it's during an exam period or if it would cause a significant disruption to your studies
Being a member of the armed forces or emergency services, with proof of duty requirements
Having a conflict of interest, such as knowing one of the parties involved in the case or having a close relationship with someone who is involved
Having a criminal record or being currently involved in legal proceedings
Language barriers or insufficient proficiency in the language used in the trial
Religious or personal beliefs that conflict with serving on a jury.
